ETHIOPIAN-CDN
LAWSUIT: Duration: 00:07:22

Over the past year, As It Happens has been following the story of a
Canadian citizen imprisoned in Ethiopia.
This past January, Bashir Makhtal was trying to flee the civil war
that had broken out in Somalia. As he was crossing the border into
Kenya, authorities in that country arrested him and handed him over
to Ethiopia. He's been held there ever since. To this day, he has
not been allowed visits by either his lawyer or officials from the
Canadian Embassy.
Now, his Canadian lawyer has launched a lawsuit against the
Ethiopian government in Ontario's Superior Court of Justice.
Lorne Waldman represents Mr. Makhtal, and we reached him in Toronto.

can, in all the places you can, at all the times you can, to
all the people you can, as long as ever you can.
